Site Purchase

After nearly three decades as tenants, we had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase the Phinney Neighborhood Center property from the Seattle School District.

The School District placed the school on its surplus property list in spring 2007 and offered the Association the opportunity to purchase the site. School District staff commissioned a third party appraisal of the property based on a variety of uses. The property was landmarked by the City’s Historic Landmarks Commission in February 2008, limiting some of those uses. PNA and School District representatives agreed on the details of the purchase and sale agreement in November 2008. Thanks to funding from the City and the State, the PNA finalized the purchase in Febraury 2009.

As owners, we will:
  • Ensure the Phinney Neighborhood Center remains in the hands of the community.
  • Guarantee the preservation of this landmarked site and buildings.
