Join The PNA Village
The Phinney Neighborhood Association's PNA Village program is an "aging in place" program which helps people to remain in their homes and neighborhoods while staying active and engaged as they age. The PNA Village encompasses three primary program areas: Network of Helpers, Information & Referrals and Community Building Activities.

We are now accepting membership applications! Sign up online or call 206.789.1217.

Seeking PNA Village Volunteers
The PNA Village is seeking volunteers with a wide variety of skills. Volunteers provide much of the talent and energy behind the PNA Village. They create a vital network of support for our members who choose to age in place. The PNA Village is intended to help build a culture of interdependence and to create a spirit of mutual support between members and volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include transportation, handy work, home safety tasks, community building, administrative support, and more. For details, call 206.789.1217 or email village@phinneycenter.org.

We will hold a PNA Village Volunteer Kick-Off event at the PNC Brick Building on February 26, from 1:30-3:30 pm.

Heart of Phinney Park Needs Valentines
Yes, we know it's winter, but we're hoping a few intrepid gardeners would like to share their love with Heart of Phinney Park. Despite the cold, we've got monster dandelions sprouting and the rains have left lots of dismal-looking perennials just begging to be dead-headed. Contact alis@phinneycenter.org if you'd like some guidance, or just venture out with your gloves, clippers, and weeder. Every little bit helps!

We Love Old Tools
The PNA Well Home Program LOVES donations of old hand tools, mystery tools, and other oddities.

PNA Auction
Mark your calendar now for the PNA's biggest fundraising party of the year on May 5. Auction procurement letters and donation forms will be in the mail soon and we hope you will make a donation. The success of the auction depends on the quality of the donations we receive. If you don't have an item to donate, please consider making a cash donation to help underwrite expenses so that more of the money raised can directly benefit PNA programs. If you or your company would like to be an auction sponsor, there are many levels of participation.

To volunteer to help with planning, at the auction, for donation forms or for more information, call Chardell at 206.783.2244 or email chardell@phinneycenter.org.

Elevator Update
Thanks to an incredibly supportive community, we have exceeded our goal of raising $30,000 for the Capital Campaign elevator fund by the end of the year. We raised a total of $50,952 from 304 households and businesses, in honor of the Phinney Neighborhood Center's 30th anniversary.

Special thanks to Lauri Serafin who spent more than 250 hours over the past several months weaving potholders from repurposed socks to sell at the Winter Festival as a fundraiser for the elevator. She donated all of the proceeds, $2,443, to the Campaign.

Fundraising for the elevator is not quite complete; we're still waiting to hear from several foundations about grant applications we've submitted. But construction is scheduled to begin in late June and should be completed in late October.

Save Your Receipts
Save your Ballard and Greenwood Market receipts for PNA and we will receive a 1% donation for the Greenwood Senior Center. Ballard Market and Greenwood Market have donated over $37,000 since 1999!

Dia De Los Muertos - Recap
Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters for our Dia de los Muertos Festival! The Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs and El Chupacabra were our event sponsors. Greenwood Market and Adjiri Arts Graphics donated supplies and time for our event. Thank you also to all of our volunteers who helped plan and run the event. We appreciate all of their support for this community event.

PCPE Raffle A Great Success
Thank you to all our donors and ticket buyers for participating in this year's PCPE Raffle during the Dia de los Muertos celebration. The event raised over $3,000 for materials and supplies for the Spanish language preschool co-op at PNA, and we are truly grateful!

Thanks To MidMountain Contractors
MidMountain Contractors will be a familiar site in Greenwood over the next year, as they work to repave 85th Street and complete associated projects. They contacted the PNA with an offer to provide some support to the special holiday lunches we serve at the Hot Meal Program. After talking with us, they committed to provide some pies and juice for both meals. Independently, they decided to order their pies from the Greenwood Senior Center, so they are helping two PNA programs at the same time! Thank you, MidMountain Contractors!

PNA Membership Campaign: What a Success!

In August our membership was made up of 2,444 members (households and businesses). After the campaign, our most current count is 2,580 members! We attribute 136 memberships and more than $5,500 dollars in membership donations to the success of the campaign. Thank you to members who joined during this time and thank you to current members who displayed a "Proud to be a PNA Member" yard sign! Your membership helps sustain a wide variety of programs, activities and events in North Seattle and allows us to continue our community building efforts.

Please note that if you requested a yard sign, but did not receive one, we apologize. We had so many requests for signs that even our second order fell short!

If your sign has not been collected yet, you can return it to the Phinney Center at your earliest convenience. To request a pick-up, please contact crystal@phinneycenter.org or call 206.783.2244.

Phabulous Phinney Pig Out

Thank you to all restaurants and diners who participated in this year's Phabulous Phinney Pig Out. Your support helps keep the PNA Hot Meal Program (formerly known as the PNA Soup Kitchens) a strong resource for hungry neighbors in our community. This year, the program has served more than 16,000 meals.

If you missed your chance to dine out, you can donate to the Hot Meal Program at any time. We will be serving a mid-day Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday, November 23. We're seeking contributions of juice and pie, as well as cooked and sliced turkey. If you'd like to bring something, please call 206.783.2244 to make delivery arrangements and get food safety guidelines. We appreciate your help!

Phinney Farmers Market

Now that the market season has ended, we'd like to extend thanks to our partner, the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA), all of the farmers and food vendors, and everyone who shopped on Fridays. The PNA and NFMA are looking at ways to reduce the costs associated with operating the market, and that may include the use of more volunteers in 2012. If you'd be interested in joining a conversation about how to ensure that our market can continue and grow stronger, please email Judith Wood at judith@phinneycenter.org or call 206.783-2244.

Our Sincere Apologies

We apologize for scheduling our Harvest Member Potluck during Yom Kippur. This was an oversight and we hope to avoid such errors when scheduling future member events.

Tool Update - Saws For Any Job!

Now that fall is upon us, what indoor projects are on your list? Chances are you might want to cut some lumber and need just the right saw for the job. The PNA Tool Library has many saws available for you to borrow: portable table saw, chop saw, circular saw, jig saw, hack saw, even good old-fashioned hand saws. A modest donation is requested for your weekly rental, but advice is free!

30Reasons

Each day in September our website featured a reason to be a PNA member. Did you miss it?

Help the GSC Record Some Memories and Destroy Others!
…by donating your video camera and/or paper shredder. We are looking for a newer, jam-free paper shredder in good condition. Medium to heavy duty, preferred. We are also looking for a newer digital video camera with all the components (and ideally, instruction manual) so we can create short instructional videos (ex: how to use the industrial dishwasher). Contact LeAnne at 206.297.0875 or leannec@phinneycenter.org.
