PNA Annual Meeting and Pancake Breakfast

Pancakes

The PNA’s 2009 Annual Meeting begins with a free pancake breakfast! Join us on Saturday, January 24, from 9-11 a.m. in Community Hall. Breakfast will be served from 9-10:30 a.m. The business portion of the event begins at 10 a.m. with the introduction and election of candidates for the PNA Board of Directors, a celebration of the 2008 successes and a look forward to the challenges of 2009.

The breakfast offers an opportunity to meet new neighbors and visit with old friends. Bring your ideas and suggestions and find out how you can become more involved in the PNA and your community. For those who are interested, there will be a tour of the Phinney Neighborhood Center at 11 a.m.

To volunteer or for more information, contact Chardell at (206) 783-2244 or email chardell@phinneycenter.org.

Special thanks to Ron Chambers of R & H for providing pancake mix.

Now the Emergency Plan is complete, the Incident Command System is in place, and we’re ready to provide classes for our community. Keep an eye on the Phinney Ridge Review Class Schedule each quarter for emergency preparedness subjects like home preparedness, light search and rescue, utility and fire extinguisher control, first aid/CPR, preparedness for your pets, severe weather preparedness, pandemic flu, SNAP and more. Some of them FREE! So now that your community center is prepared, come join us by taking these great classes.

Volunteer Thanks

Many wonderful volunteers gave their time and energy to prepare and serve holiday meals at the PNA Soup Kitchen or Greenwood Senior Center and baking and staffing all manner of jobs before and during the Winter Festival. Particular thanks go to Starbucks employees who decorated the entire Phinney Neighborhood Center and supplied materials, time, and expertise to run the Community Hall Cafe during the Winter Festival. Kudos also to Seattle Works, who sent a great volunteer group to take down our holiday decorations and give the Phinney Gallery a much-needed freshening. Thank you all so much!

Phinney Neighbors in Action

Thank you to all the neighbors who fulfilled wishes for nearly 400 children and adults through our annual Giving Tree project. Special thanks to George and Lindsey Suriya and Mars Hill Church members who put up the PNC tree, along with Maia Miller and Logan Crabtree, who prepared many of the gift tags. Thanks also to Jenny McIntosh and her crew of volunteers who organized a Giving Tree at the Greenwood Senior Center for the first time. Our partner agencies are astonished every year at the outpouring of support for this project. We also appreciate all of the donations of time and food to our special holiday meals at the PNA Soup Kitchen. Thanksgiving and Christmas were made much brighter because of your caring.

The giving will continue in January and February with a winter blanket drive for The Sharehouse, an agency assisting formerly-homeless persons move into permanent housing. New or gently-used blankets may be dropped of at the Phinney Neighborhood Center anytime during our open hours. To contribute other household furnishings, please visit www.thesharehouse.org for guidelines and the delivery location; we will only be collecting blankets at the PNC.

BUILDING COMMUNITY IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Strong vibrant neighborhoods don’t just happen. They’re the result of years of hard work and effort. Since 1980, the Phinney Neighborhood Association has invested time and money in building and strengthening our neighborhood by providing and promoting a variety of programs and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering involvement in our community.

Over the years, thousands of neighbors, near and far, have joined in these efforts creating a unique neighborhood center that is home to countless events, classes, community meetings, preschool and childcare resources, a tool lending library, soup kitchens, a senior center and an art gallery.
Make an investment in the future of your neighborhood. Membership forms the cornerstone of the Association and is vital to our success. Join today.
