Phinney Neighborhood Association Newsletter—Volume 29, Issue 3, March 2009
Other 2009 editions: July - June - May - April - March - Feb - Jan

Moulin Rouge is the theme for the annual PNA auction scheduled for May 2. Planning is underway, but we need your help with our biggest fundraising event and party of the year! We hope you received your donation request letter and are now busy searching for the perfect donation.

We’ve already received some great donations - catered dinners, jewelry and sailing excursions. Think of unique experiences that you can share, such as a weekend cabin, behind-the-scenes tours, a dessert a month - or ask a business that you support to make a donation. For more information, additional donation forms or to volunteer with event preparations, call Mary Lee or Chardell at (206) 783-2244 or email marylee@phinneycenter.org.

Home Fair Thanks

The 12th Annual Home Design & Remodel Fair was a success for all those who attended. Thanks to our sponsors George W. Johnson Realty, Greenwood True Value Hardware, HomeStreet Bank, Jackson Remodeling, Keystone Windows & Doors, and KPLU Radio. Nearly 90 exhibitors filled the building with interesting displays and many of these also donated door prizes and shared their expertise in short presentations. If you missed the event, you can still visit our Home Fair Web page for a full list of participants or drop by the PNA Tool Library and pick up a copy of the program guide. Kudos to all the volunteers who helped things run smoothly and to the bakers and local businesses who provided refreshments: Starbucks, Picnic, Kort Haus, and Greenwood Safeway.

Comfort & Joy Gift Drive

Spring is the season when the Phinney Neighbors in Action program of the PNA gathers gifts for the children of Childhaven and Broadview Emergency Shelter. Look for a colorful “Comfort & Joy” quilt containing gift ideas in the lobby of the Phinney Neighborhood Center from now until mid-April. The toys, books, and other items collected will be given for birthdays and other special occasions at these two agencies. The Comfort and Joy gift drive is an opportunity to share some of our love and gratitude with children who could use a little extra. Please deliver unwrapped gifts to the PNC or GSC by April 13.

BUILDING COMMUNITY IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Strong vibrant neighborhoods don’t just happen. They’re the result of years of hard work and effort. Since 1980, the Phinney Neighborhood Association has invested time and money in building and strengthening our neighborhood by providing and promoting a variety of programs and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering involvement in our community.

Over the years, thousands of neighbors, near and far, have joined in these efforts creating a unique neighborhood center that is home to countless events, classes, community meetings, preschool and childcare resources, a tool lending library, soup kitchens, a senior center and an art gallery.
Make an investment in the future of your neighborhood. Membership forms the cornerstone of the Association and is vital to our success. Join today.
