Enrolling Your Child

All-school registration for the following school year will be held each spring. At the time of registration, current students promoting into the next class or students repeating a class will be given first priority for enrollment. Vacancies that exist after registration will be filled from the group waiting list according to its priority classifications and date of contact.

For information about PNPC enrollment or waitlists for full classes, please contact the Registrar.

For those classes that  have a waitlist, parents would send their child's full name and date of birth, parent(s) name(s), home address and phone number. The waitlist carries over from year to year so there is no need to resubmit the information.

Waiting lists are maintained for each class by the Registrar using the classifications listed below. The classifications are listed in the order of enrollment priority. Each child’s name will be placed in the single classification that provides him or her the highest priority and, within that classification, by date of contact with the Registrar.

  1. Current students promoting into or repeating a class
(including families returning from a Leave of Absence)
  2. Siblings of students currently enrolled in the preschool
  3. Current students transferring from one class into another
  4. Siblings of alumni students
(An alumni student is one who has had continuous enrollment in the PNPC
program -regardless of start date- and graduated from the Pre-K class.)
  5. New enrollees who live inside the catchment area
  6. New enrollees who live outside the catchment area

Openings during the year will be filled from the waiting lists.  Families who are offered a spot may decline once before having their child’s name moved to the bottom of that waiting list (to the catchment or out-of-catchment category, as applicable).

Please contact the Registrar if you or someone you know is concerned about waiting list status.  If you know families who may be interested in joining the preschool in the future, encourage them to call and get their name on a waiting list right way.  Our waiting lists are often lengthy, and even the Parent/Infant class fills quickly.

To enroll your child in the preschool, your family must first be a member of the Phinney Neighborhood Association.  If you are enrolling your child before the school year begins, you must also pay a non-refundable preschool registration fee as well as your first month’s tuition.  If you are enrolling your child after the year has begun, you must pay the registration fee (half of it if you are enrolling after January 15), tuition for the month in which your child will start (half of it if your child will start after the 15th of the month), and your last month’s tuition (see “Tuition” for further discussion of this topic).   Registration Form.

A medical release form provided by your Class Secretary also must be completed before you can leave your child at preschool.  By state law, families are required to show proof of their child’s immunization by the first day of school (those with religious or personal objections are exempted). In accordance with King County Health  Department recommendations, the PNPC requires all parents and adults working in the classroom to get a TB test every two years.  Exceptions for nursing or pregnant mothers are available if accompanied by a note from a health care professional.  Additional forms may also be required (see “PNPC’s TB Policy” for further discussion of this topic).

Enrolling in the preschool requires your commitment to attending class on a regular basis and fulfilling the other requirements of all preschool families.
