PNPC Dragon Room Summer Program 2008

The Dragon Room Summer Program is a series of classes for young children sponsored by the Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-op (PNPC) and held in the PNPC's enchanted Dragon Room at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.

Open to PNPC families and community members alike, the Dragon Room Summer Program offers rich and diverse classes for preschoolers and elementary aged children.

The classes are drop-off so do not require parental involvement, but you are always welcome to stay for all or part of the class to explore along with your child.

Founded in 1981, the PNPC is a cooperative preschool dedicated to creating a supportive community of families and encouraging the individual social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children through creative play.

Come with us on a magical journey through an enchanted forest. Using song, art, movement, story and especially drama, we will create magical creatures who overcome many challenges along the way. Come play, pretend, and relax into a grand adventure. Please make sure to bring a snack and water bottle! Mim Turnbull is a certified teacher and currently teaches at The Seattle Children’s Theatre.

This yoga class incorporates poses and movement while traveling on imaginative journeys by utilizing themes, music, stories, art, games, and relaxation. We will focus on fun, play, and movement while introducing forms of yoga. Definitely not your average yoga class! The instructor, Wendy Cunningham has her BS in exercise science and currently holds her 200 Hour Yoga Alliance certification and children’s yoga certifications from Radiant Child Yoga Program (RCYP1 & 2) and Mini Yogis in Los Angeles. She is the owner and director of Bizzy Bodies "Yoga on the Go" and is also a Washington state certified PE and Health teacher.

Creative fun and sensory exploration! If your kid likes to get messy and explore and experiment with art, then this camp is for you! Glue and glitter, foam and paint–they will have projects to bring home and experiences to remember. We will be inside and out, working large scale and small–taking detailed care and being explosively impressionistic. Hands on Art cont. If you've ever dropped your child off at Play Group at the Phinney Center, or Dragon Room Date Night, you know how much fun your child has had with Sam Spencer. Join "Auntie Laura", a Hawaii native, for Camp Aloha. Your 3 to 6 year old children will have fun learning about the history and culture of the 50th state through games, songs and stories. We plan to string our own flower leis and even try the hula. "Auntie Laura" and her middle school son will bring their ukuleles to share some live music and our last day at camp will culminate with a mini luau so children can sample traditional Hawaiian foods such as poi and haupia (coconut pudding.) *Optional drop in lunch bunch, bring your sack lunch and stay until 12:30 $5 extra per day.

Immerse your child in Spanish this summer, while he or she creates a fiesta. Through song, dance, crafts and words your child will learn and practice many useful Spanish phrases while enjoying the arts of Latin American culture. Taught by an experienced teacher and native Spanish speaker, Martha Escobar de Breslauer. Each student, consistent with their age and skills, will work with other students to create a fiesta on the last day of class.. Please bring a snack and water bottle.

Calling all builders! Nancy Fasoldt, woodworking teacher and PNPC Mom alumna, will help children learn to use real hand tools as they plan and build one of several projects. Projects in the past have included: jewelry box, tool chest, treasure box, doll bed, bird house, small furniture, robots and fantasy projects. Your child will love the atmosphere of sawing, hammering and building with some experienced young classroom helpers. Please bring a snack and water bottle.

Come join these friends on their adventures around the world! Each day we will work together as characters to solve a different problem, experiencing creative drama, music, dance, poetry, story telling, puppetry, and costume design along the way. Instructor Meredith Berlin is a professional theatre artist, with over 15 years experience teaching this age group.
