Firefox is a free web browser that is small, fast and easy to use. It offers many advantages over Internet Explorer, such as the ability to block pop-up windows and greater security on the Internet. Come try it out and take it home.

Seniors, in small class settings, will learn about computers, how to access the Internet and to write emails. This class is designed for seniors with little to no computer experience. Classes are taught by seniors and students must attend all classes within a session. This class is brought to you by the Seattle Human Services Department and the Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens.

Software doesn't always have to be expensive. In fact, sometimes it doesn’t cost a dime! This class will introduce you to a free Internet web browser, email program, office suite and graphics editor that you can use on your Windows computer. We’ll cover the basics of how to use them, what "open source" means and you’ll receive a free CD to take them all home. Contact pnaopensource@gmail.com for questions.

LINUX EXPLORATION

This class is meant to introduce experienced computer users to Linux. We will cover a basic skill set, appropriate for people not familiar with the Linux system but comfortable with other systems. After introducing the User Interface and the shell, we'll look at online documentation and discuss ways to continue learning Linux. Experience with computers required.

WORD PROCESSING WITH GOOGLE

This class is an introduction to writing on the computer using Google’s “Docs and Spreadsheets” application, a free web-based word processor and spreadsheets tool. Learn how to use this simple word processor to create, edit, save and send your own documents. Documents created with this application are compatible with many others, including Microsoft Word. Some basic computer skills required.

If you're beginning to use a computer, this class is for you. Learn desktop and other Windows features. Become familiar with folders, files and document formats; learn to copy items from one folder to another; learn to rename files and folders. Use "Help" and "Find" functions. Learn to delete unnecessary items. Register for both Beginning and Intermediate classes and receive a $5 discount.

This course continues where Windows: Beginning ended. Learn more about the Desktop, Taskbar and Start Menu. Understand the use of the right mouse button and mouse wheel. Take a brief tour of the Control Panel and discover how to customize Windows to your tastes. Register for both Beginning and Intermediate classes and receive a $5 discount.

CREATING SPREADSHEETS WITH GOOGLE

This class is an introduction to using the spreadsheet functions of Google’s “Docs and Spreadsheets” application, a free web-based word-processor and spreadsheets tool. Features include sorting, formatting and calculations, in addition to easy sharing between coworkers or friends. Spreadsheets created with this application are compatible with Microsoft Excel. Some basic computer skills required.
