Lifting Loneliness: PNA Social Connection Project helps isolated older adults
The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the pre-existing problem of social isolation, particularly among older adults. Phinney Center and GSC closed on June 20 to honor Juneteenth
The Phinney Center and Greenwood Senior Center will be closed on Monday, June 20, to commemorate Juneteenth. Juneteenth marks the date of June 19, 1865 – more than two years after the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation – when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved African Americans of their freedom. We know that recognizing Juneteenth does not repair the generational damages wrought by slavery, nor does it compensate for the continued injustices imposed against Black people in this country today.
