Instructor and proprietress Jean Hindle has been a somatic movement educator, Soma Yoga and meditation teacher, and dancer in Seattle for 28 years. Originally from Michigan, she lives in Seattle and founded Soma Yoga & Dance Studio in Ballard 18 years ago.

She teaches mostly adults and some teens with her Toolkit for Teens work. Jean says, “I love supporting students in finding freedom in motion, mind and thus, creative courageous living through Somatics, meditation, Soma Yoga, dance, BrainDance and the arts (drawing meditation/writing).”

Soma Yoga, which she began developing in 1994 and founded in 1998, draws strongly from the wisdom of Hanna Somatics, Skinner Releasing Technique, the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais, The Alexander Technique, Brain-Dance developmental movement, Embodied Anatomy, meditation practices within the Zen and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, and her life as a dancer.

Jean describes, “these slow, gentle somatic movement practices liberate us from layers of involuntary, habitual holding patterns. Chronic tension patterns change as the body regains its innate ability to self-correct to ease and efficiency.”

Currently, Jean is scheduling private sessions and semi-private sessions, classes, and workshops in person at the studio for vaccinated students. The studio adheres to strict COVID-19 protocols with great windows for optimal ventilation and a powerful air purifier.

She also teaches a deeply restorative online Somatic Movement & Meditation Class on Tuesdays, an online SomaYogaDance class on Fridays, and online Home Retreat Weekends. You may also schedule private online workshops/classes for friends, family, or your business.
