River, Rail and Road: How We Got Here – and Why

Wednesday, June 22, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Washington’s history can be segmented into six epochs. In each, different people came here, and for different reasons, exploiting different modes of transportation as new technologies of movement made easier the American quest to conquer time and distance. From the First Peoples to the most recent arrivals, the journeys are marked by both tragedy and triumph, both in the aggregate and in the individual journeys within each wave. The story of one pioneer family illustrates the process into the 20th century. William Woodward is an award-winning professor of American and Pacific Northwest history at Seattle Pacific University. His teaching, research, and writing focus on iconic elements of regional and national culture, including the military and baseball. His co-authored pictorial history of the Washington National Guard was released in 2019. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Georgetown University. RSVP: 206.297.0875.

Free, but donations are appreciated.
