What’s It Like? How to Use Metaphors to Enrich Your Poems

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free

This is one of six free workshops and writing sessions offered by members of the Greenwood Poets. Open to anyone interested in learning more about the challenges and pleasures of writing poems.

This session will explain how metaphors make everything you write more interesting by drawing good comparisons. Don’t worry if you don’t have a poem. We’ll look at expert examples to understand how metaphors and similes work, and then use a prompt to practice. Handouts and writing prompts will be provided. Instructor Sharon Cumberland is professor emeritus of English and Poetry at Seattle University where she directed the Creative Writing program. She is the original member of the Greenwood Poets. RSVP: 206.297.0875.
