Girls empowerment program coming this spring – registration open
The PNA is excited to partner with Girls on the Run is this spring to bring their program to the Phinney Center. Girls on the Run is a girl empowerment program that teaches important life skills while creatively integrating running and walking. This program is 10-weeks long and is for 3rd-5th grade students that identify as female. It culminates in a celebratory, non-competitive 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk.
Girls on the Run is for every girl – the curriculum includes adaptations for girls with sensory, intellectual and physical disabilities. Girls on the Run also provides unlimited scholarships and running shoes and sports hijabs for any girl in need.
The main registration period is January 10 – January 24. The team size is 8-15 girls. If more than 15 girls apply between January 10-24, a random lottery will be used to select the 15 girls for the team. The last day to sign up, if spots are still available, is March 9.
Last summer, PNA hosted the Girls on the Run summer camp at the Phinney Center and we were impressed by the mission and the vision of the organization and the outcomes the program has shown for preteen girls. So, we’re enthusiastic to continue to offer the program in our community! Check it out!
