Coming back together

Coming back together

Now, many of us are finding our way back to each other and our communities. After this long period of isolation, there’s a huge need for opportunities to connect with one another and to support our neighbors. The Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is committed to strengthening our community as we safely come back together. As the pandemic continues, the PNA is working hard to keep Northwest Seattle connected, active, and well.

We’re back to (safely) hosting events for the community. We connect seniors with virtual counseling, support groups, lunches, and Zoom activities; host co-op preschools, childcare, and other community programs; serve as a resource hub for local businesses; distribute grocery gift cards and face masks; provide free meals to anyone who needs them; and much more.

There are many ways to support our local PhinneyWood community in this season of giving—here are five:

1. Donate to the PNA

You can join a global giving movement and donate on Giving Tuesday, or support our work anytime during the holiday season. Perhaps you want to celebrate a community member—consider making a gift in honor of them. We will share this special news with them by mailing a card. You can donate securely online or mail a check to 6532 Phinney Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103.

2. Check out your work’s giving programs

You can double your impact through employer matching! Many companies match employee donations and payroll deductions to charitable organizations, and sometimes they’ll even donate money for volunteer hours you spend helping a nonprofit! Check with your employer’s HR Department and learn more through our workplace giving resources.

3. Become a PNA Member

Join the PNA and support our essential community-driven programs and diverse events. In addition to the fact that you’re supporting the neighborhood hub, you’ll get access to the PNA Tool Library and discounts on events. You can learn more and sign up online or call us at 206.783.2244.

You can also give the gift of PNA membership! A PNA Village Membership, particularly, makes a great gift for an older adult in your life. The Village program helps our older neighbors stay in the homes they love as they grow older. The PNA Village in the North Seattle neighborhood provides transportation, help with home projects, and offers social opportunities.

4. Give the gift of time

Volunteers are essential to this community! Plus, volunteering with the PNA is a great way to get involved and meet your neighbors. The PNA hosts more than 1,500 volunteers a year and each one makes a huge impact!

Volunteering with the PNA brings people together to enrich lives and spread joy, laughter, and fun in the community. You can contribute in any number of ways, including event staffing, admin support, special projects, or helping out our neighbors. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities and sign up today!

5. Make a winter wish come true

Bring a bit of joy to folks who need a little extra this season. Join in our annual Winter Wishes program (formerly Giving Tree) from mid-November through mid-December by purchasing a gift or gift card for a child or adult involved with one of these local organizations: Broadview Emergency Shelter, Cate Apartments, Dorothy Day House, Robert Eagle Staff Middle School, FamilyWorks, Greenwood Senior Center, PNA Hot Meal Program, Lakeview Apartments, Licton Springs Elementary School, and Whitman Middle School. It’s easy to participate! Sign up for a Winter Wishes “tag” online, purchase a gift, and deliver it to the organization according to the specific directions you receive.

We love our community!

All of us at the PNA are grateful and honored to be a part of all the fabulous north Seattle neighborhoods and beyond. We appreciate the outpouring of support we have received over the challenging past two years, as well as the 41 years of our existence!

If you are new to the PNA, the neighborhood, or Seattle, welcome! We hope to meet you soon. If you’re a PNA veteran, we look forward to connecting at your next favorite PNA activity.
