Update from our Executive Director, Dar’Nesha Weary
Dear PNA Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy, active, and connected. We miss you–our community and the bustle and activity of our centers, events, and programs.
As you have likely heard, last week was an extremely difficult week for the Phinney Neighborhood Association. For the first time in our 40 years of existence, we had to lay off staff and reduce hours due to the COVID-mandated shut-down of our facilities, events, and paid licensed child care programs.
At the same time, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the community. Since last Friday’s message from the Board of Directors, we have received overwhelming words of encouragement, community outreach, and financial support.
In one week, we have received over 370 donations totaling more than $75,500! If you are one of those contributors, we thank you so much for your support and wanted to make sure you received this update.
Additionally, with the dedicated help from Homestreet Bank Phinney Ridge, I am grateful to announce that the PNA has received preliminary approval for the federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan assistance. When received, these funds will help sustain the PNA for approximately two more months.
Yet, despite the good news, the PNA continues to need your support. Each day the PNA is closed represents an unrecoverable loss, deeply affecting our ability to operate and threatens the PNA’s very existence.
We hope you’ll join us in participating in GiveBIG Washington, our chance to donate together as a community. All GiveBIG gifts we receive will be directed to our Don’t Stop Believin’ Emergency Campaign. GiveBIG is officially May 5-6, but you can GiveBIG starting now.
