Local brewery Reuben’s Brews is celebrating their tenth anniversary and raising a glass to their community partners with ten collaborative beers. For its role in their development, the PNA will be honored with a special brew named Beer Committee that recognizes our famed beer tastes and the brewery’s roots.
Reuben’s Brews’ bond with the PNA was first tapped at the 2010 PNA Winter Beer Taste. “They joined the Taste as homebrewers and were so excited to be there,” recalls PNA Event Coordinator Chardell Paine. “Adam poured a rye IPA. It was unique and a first for our beer tastes.”
The beer taste crowd recognized their Roasted Rye-PA as something special, too, giving it the People’s Choice Award. That beer taste experience encouraged Adam and Grace Robbings to pursue their passion and start Reuben’s Brews.
“The opportunity to pour beer for the public—and then to be recognized by the community for it—was an amazing experience that directly led some years later to the founding of the brewery,” shared Reuben’s Brews Marketing Manager Matt Lutton.

The brewery has since been involved with every beer taste and enjoys pouring at them each summer and winter.
“We’re located just down the hill from the PNA and so many folks involved with PNA are long-time customers of ours… We love pouring beer for everyone, but it is extra special when we’re pouring for our friends and neighbors.”
Reuben’s Brews’ connection to the PNA goes beyond the beer tastes. The brewery has fundraised for us through several Thank You Thursday giving campaigns as they value our community-building programs.
“There’s a lot to love about the work of the PNA! We are so grateful for the role the PNA plays in creating community and connecting our neighborhood,” shared Matt.
Thinking about Reuben’s Brews’ partnership, PNA Beer Taste Committee member Mark Krukar said, “It’s really important to us because their support and outreach increases awareness in the community about the great things that the PNA does and represents. They allow us to tell people about the PNA and to reach people we might not otherwise have a chance to interact with.”

Mutual admiration infuses the enduring collaboration and makes Reuben’s Brews new Beer Committee brew a must-try summer beer.
The special brew, Beer Committee, is named for the PNA Beer Taste Committee who organizes the events and selects their popular themes. To concoct the beer, the committee met virtually with brewery staff to brainstorm a brew celebrating the PNA-Reuben’s Brews relationship.
“It was a lot of fun working with them. They were very open to our recipe ideas and contributed ideas of their own, so it was truly a collaborative process,” shared Mark.
Together, the committee and Reuben’s Brews created a summertime sipper that calls back to their first beer taste award-winner, according to Matt.
Look forward to tasting Reuben’s Brews new “Beer Committee” rye witbier this month. It honors the PNA as part of the Reuben’s Brews Tenth Anniversary Collaboration Series.
“Beer Committee will be a highly drinkable and refreshing summertime Rye Witbier, meaning a Belgian-style white ale with spices and a pinch of rye malt that adds depth and character as well as acting as a nice nod to the Roasted Rye IPA that started it all off.”
Reuben’s Brews will release Beer Committee this month at their Ballard taproom, distribute it in four-packs of 16 oz. cans, and, of course, pour it at our 15th Annual PNA Summer Beer Taste, Beercraft, on July 16.
Beer drinkers and PNA fans should keep an eye out for the special Beer Committee can design and visit Reuben’s Brews to experience ten years of community partnership in every pint.
Reuben’s Brews will premiere Beer Committee at the 15th Annual PNA Summer Beer Taste, Beercraft, on July 16. The event will feature more than 30 local breweries and cideries. All proceeds support our community programs.
