Three Weeks of Folk Dancing
Friday, July 12, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Friday, repeating until Friday July 26, 2019
One definition of folkdance is “A traditional way of building community using dance and music.” In three weeks we don’t have time develop these traditions exclusive to our own community, but fortunately other communities are glad to share dance traditions with us. To build community, dances have to be accessible to people of all ages; the instructor has successfully taught them to people from ages 2 to 96. Expect to learn some dances from the backwoods of various countries. Expect to hear music styles never heard on popular radio. Expect to learn new sides of old friends and make new friends. $30 for three-part series. Pat McMonagle is currently a dancing leader at Folklife, The Swedish Club, the New England Folk Festival, the Skandia Folkdance Society and the Junction City Scandinavian Festival.
