DEIB at the PNA

The PNA is a vital community hub, focused on supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within our community. Although we are working hard to change things, we recognize that inequity and exclusion are present within and around Northwest Seattle due to historic and current policies and societal forces. People have been marginalized due to their race, ethnicity, religion, and immigration status among other factors, and as a result many people have been excluded from ownership, residency, amenities and services in our region. We acknowledge that the systemic inequities present within our region are reflected in our organization and we are committed to self-reflection and internal change, as well as to use our voice to intentionally amplify our values and to drive positive social change in our community.

We are committed to holding ourselves accountable to these values and have incorporated systems to support listening and learning, as well as intentionally centering these values in our programming, partnerships and all of our actions. We actively invite the community to join us and help us as we grow and evolve.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the PNA service area lies on the unceded and ancestral land of the Coast Salish peoples, the Stillaguamish, Duwamish, Muckleshoot and Suquamish. We honor with gratitude the land itself, the First People – who have reserved treaty rights and continue to live here since time immemorial – and their ancestral heritage. We acknowledge the loss of lives from acts of violence and systemic racism.

Committee

While the PNA considers the work of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging to reside in all areas of the organization, we have a dedicated DEIB Committee comprised of staff, board and community members who meet regularly to create and identify opportunities for ongoing training, learning, and to work on specific projects to move this work forward.
