About PNA’s Dia De Los Muertos Celebration

This Mexican holiday honors the deceased with a cultural extravaganza filled with food, drink, and festivities. But it’s not just about mourning; it’s a time to commemorate the lives of our loved ones and rejoice in the memories shared with family and friends.

Immerse yourself in an enriching arts and cultural event that offers a unique opportunity to learn about Mexican heritage and traditions. The centerpiece of our celebration is the traditional altar dedicated to offerings for the departed. Witness the heartfelt gestures of gifts and prayers as we pay homage to those who have left us.

The origin of this beautiful celebration comes from a neighbor in our community, the talented artist Carlos Duran, who brought the essence of Día de los Muertos to the PNA. We are proud to embrace and support his culture and traditions, as they align perfectly with our values of inclusivity and the celebration of diversity.

Throughout the event, you’ll be captivated by mesmerizing performances, the enchanting use of language, and delectable food and drink that exemplify the rich Mexican heritage. Engage in craft activities and dance to the rhythmic beats that fill the air, fostering an atmosphere of togetherness and shared experiences.

This celebration is not only an opportunity to rejoice in life but also to learn about the unique traditions and customs of our neighbors. It serves as a meaningful way to commemorate a common human experience and brings us all together in a grand celebration of life and love.

Event Details

Join us on November 4th as we come together to celebrate the vibrant and joyous Día de los Muertos – Day of the Dead Celebration.

  • 1:00 PM: Opening ceremony and procession through the neighborhood with CeAtl Tonali
  • 2:00 PM: Baile Folklore Colibri
  • 2:30 PM: Altar dedication with Raul Sanchez
  • 3:00 PM: Groupo Folklorico
  • 3:30 PM: Jump on Languages student performance
  • 1-4 PM: Tacos, tamales, churros, horchata and more available for purchase from neighborhood restaurant Abuelita’s Kitchen
  • 1-4 PM: Mexican hot chocolate ($2) and pan de muerto ($4) available for purchase
  • 1-4 PM: Free crafts – make paper flowers, beaded bracelets and temporary face tattoos.
  • Bring photos and offerings for the community altar, built by the wonderful poet and community member Raul Sanchez. Altar will be up in the Phinney Center lobby from October 23 through November 6
