Día de los Muertos – Day of the Dead Celebration

Saturday, November 5, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Dia de los Muertos altar

Celebrate Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday honoring the dead with food, drink, and festivities.

It’s a time to commemorate the dead and celebrate their lives with family and friends. Our celebration includes the dedication of a traditional altar for offerings to the deceased, live entertainment, food and drink, and crafts.

Because this event is very crowded, we cannot allow baby strollers inside. Baby stroller parking will be available outside the main entrance. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Thank you!

Schedule

11 am: CeAtl Tonalli Aztec Dancer

Dancing, drumming, and singing in the upper lot, followed by a dance procession with the audience around the neighborhood and back to the center for a final dance and closing.

12 pm: Altar dedication by Raúl Sánchez

Raúl Sánchez is a poet and teacher and the current Poet Laureate of the City of Redmond. He has created the ofrenda (altar) since 2010.  The altar‘s role is central to Día de los Muertos. People are invited to bring their photos and mementos of loved ones to place on the altar. Bring items before the event to the Phinney Center Blue Building (6532 Phinney Ave N) to be incorporated during the building of the altar, or bring items when you arrive at the event.

12:30 pm: Bailadores de Bronce

This Mexican folkloric dance group performs in and around Seattle.  The richness of the culture can be seen in the beautiful costumes from the various regions of Mexico. The high energy and enthusiasm of the dancers transcends the stage and is felt by the audience during their performances.

1:30 pm: Grupo Folklorico Citlali

Grupo Folklorico Citlali was established in 2012 by their teacher, Lauren Robles. Their dancers ages range from 5-20. Their mission is to share their passion of dance and the Mexican culture with each performance that they do.

2:15 pm: Jump On Languages

Preschool students will sing traditional songs in Spanish.

Get a temporary face tattoo and then take a photo in the DIY photo booth. We’ll also have arts and crafts, including beading, paper flowers, and coloring pages.
