Power of Community: Alone Together

THE POWER OF COMMUNITY EVENT:
Thursday, October 15
Join us for a virtual lunch hour!
12-1 PM . Zoom
Now, connection is more important than ever.
Nearly one-fourth of adults aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated. Older adults are at increased risk for loneliness and social isolation because they are more likely to face factors such as living alone, the loss of family or friends, chronic illness, and hearing loss.
As we are all urged to stay home and maintain social distance to combat the spread of COVID-19, we have seen a heightened risk of social isolation and loneliness among people of all ages, but especially among older adults.
Join us to celebrate and support PNA’s senior services that combat loneliness and social isolation and foster belonging and well-being for our community’s elders.
Keynote Speaker & Program:
Carla M. Perissinotto, M.D., M.H.S., associate professor in the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)
Dr. Perissinotto has gained national and international recognition for her research on the effects of loneliness on the health of older adults.
In addition to our keynote address, you will hear from King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles and members of the senior community, see some examples of what we’ve been up to, and learn about the impact our programs are having right now.
This year, the Power of Community will take place on Zoom. It’s free to attend; a request for donations will be made. A gift of $75 or greater is suggested, but donations of any size will support our critical senior programs: the Greenwood Senior Center, PNA Village, Memory Loss Program, and Caregiver Supports.
Want to help spread the word about the event and our senior programs? Be a Virtual Champion! It’s like a being a table captain, but without the tables. Invite your friends, colleagues, and family, with support from us. Email Mary at [email protected] if you’re interested.
Closed captioning will be available during the event.
